the standard of proof

When It Comes to EIPH, Ask What Has Been Proven.

Many products claim to support respiratory or lung health. That's different from demonstrating that a product reduces EIPH during intense exercise. FLAIR Strips have been evaluated in controlled clinical research in exercising horses, with EIPH objectively measured—and compared side-by-side with Lasix.

Don't confuse a respiratory-health claim with evidence of EIPH efficacy.

Was it tested in exercising horses?

EIPH happens under the pressures of intense work—evidence has to come from horses actually exercising, not at rest.

Was EIPH actually measured?

Look for objective measurement of pulmonary hemorrhage—not a general claim about "lung" or "respiratory" health.

FLAIR Strips were studied side-by-side with Lasix, the benchmark for reducing EIPH.

The Evidence

Don't Just Take Our Word for It. Look at the Data.

In this controlled study, both FLAIR Strips and furosemide significantly reduced pulmonary hemorrhage compared with control.

Why the Run Matters

EIPH Doesn't Start After the Run.

During a barrel run, oxygen demand and airflow increase dramatically. Horses generate increasingly negative pressures to pull large volumes of air through the respiratory system. At the same time, pulmonary vascular pressures rise. These extreme pressure forces across the delicate pulmonary capillaries are the cause of the vessel failure that results in EIPH. That's why reducing unnecessary respiratory load during the run matters.

Nose

Nose

Every breath enters here. The nasal passages are the first—and narrowest—point in the airway.

Airways

Airways

Negative pressure builds as the horse pulls huge volumes of air through the trachea and bronchi.

Lungs

Lungs

Extreme pressure across delicate pulmonary capillaries causes the bleeding known as EIPH.

How FLAIR® Strips Work

Make Breathing Easier Where the Airway Is Most Vulnerable.

Horses are obligate nasal breathers. During intense exercise, the nasal passages are a major source of airway resistance. The unique design of FLAIR® Strips supports the soft tissues over the nasal passages to help reduce tissue collapse, airway resistance, and the work required to breathe.

  1. Supports Nasal Passages
  2. Reduces Airway Resistance
  3. Reduces Respiratory Load
  4. Reduce Extreme Inspiratory Pressures
  5. Clinically Proven to Reduce EIPH Severity

Supporting Lung Health and Reducing EIPH Aren't the Same Thing.

Good respiratory management can include many things—conditioning, environment, veterinary care, nutrition, and recovery.

But a claim to "support lung health" does not establish that a product reduces EIPH during intense exercise.

If EIPH is the concern, ask for the evidence.

EIPH Isn't the Whole Respiratory Story

Every Barrel Horse Is a Respiratory Athlete.

Your horse doesn't have to be a known bleeder to benefit from easier breathing with FLAIR Strips.

Easier Breathing

Reduce nasal airway resistance and the unnecessary work of breathing.

EIPH

Clinically proven to reduce the severity of exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage.

Recovery

Reducing unnecessary respiratory work during intense exercise conserves energy for the horse's overall effort and recovery.
