The FLAIR™ Flying Piglet Junior Rider Award!PolVam
Flair LLC and Team FLAIR™ Member Meaghan Marinovich wish to honor the memory of Meaghan’s horse of a lifetime, AHLERICH with the Flying Piglet Junior Rider Award during the 2015 Otter Creek Horse Trials in Minnesota. Read on to know why Meaghan wants to honor this special horse…
Riders share a special bond and partnership with their horse that is hard to describe, they give you the ability to dream about the future, the best of them fulfill those dreams. That was a the privilege I had with Ahlerich, a 9 year old Trakehner gelding that I acquired in 2005 when I was 15. Nine short months later we won team gold at the North American Young Rider Championships. Ahlerich and I were a perfect match he was a cross country power house. From Jan 2006-through 2008 we did not have a single XC jump penalty. After graduating high school Ahlerich and I made the trip across the pond to attend university at Hartpury College. We spent 6 great years in England together competing at some of the most amazing venues. During this time I was able to move up to advanced and the CIC*** level. Ahlerich officially retired in the summer of 2011. He was truly my best friend we had grown up together; he watched and took care of me from a sophomore in high school all the way through my master’s degree. He enjoyed three years of retirement in a large grassy field bossing everyone around. I would occasionally get on him bare back with a halter and lead rope and jump around some fences. Seeing life through his ears was magical. Sadly 6 days before my return to the States Ahlerich jumped out his field and sustained a compound fracture to his right radius. As heartbreaking as it was to lose my once in a lifetime horse I was so happy I was there with him. I got to thank him for everything he had done for me and told him that he will always be my Flying Piglet.
The purpose of this award is to recognize young riders and their amazing horses that help them fulfill their dreams. I would like to wish everyone the best of luck.
