Purdon-Rasmussen make history with seven wins on the day

I) on Tuesday afternoon at Addington Raceway. Raced to victory by Mark Purdon, the champion mare reeled off the last 800- meters in 55-seconds en route to a final time of 03:54.6. ADORE ME became the first mare to win the Cup since MAINLAND BANNER won in 2005. Protected with a FLAIR Strip, ADORE ME’s performance was the fastest ever in the Cup’s 111-year history.
The Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup is considered Australasia’s most prestigious harness racing event, and Standardbreds protected with a FLAIR Strip won 9 of the 12 events on Cup Day. Among them was the win by HAVE FAITH IN ME who set a New Zealand record in the $156,400.00 NRM Sires’ Stakes Series Final (gr. I). In a dominating performance, STENT took the Granite Benchtop Company-New Zealand Trotting Free-For-All (gr. I). MESSINI smashed the New Zealand record for 2,600-meters in the Fahey Fence Hire Free-For-All (gr. III).
The All Stars stable of Mark Purdon and his co-trainer, and partner Natalie Rasmussen made harness racing history on Cup Day, when New Zealand’s leading barn accounted for seven winners, three seconds and two thirds. Purdon – who protects all his Standardbred runners with a FLAIR Strip – noted the importance of what the day meant to him.“It’s been the greatest day in harness racing for me without doubt,” Purdon stated.
